PNA network in the Basque Country

The Basque Country has more than 20 protected areas of various categories: Biosphere Reserves, Natura 2000 Network, SCI Areas, RAMSAR Sites, Natural Parks (Valderejo, Izki, Gorbeia, Urkiola, Aizkorri-Aratz, Aralar, Pagoeta, Aiako-Harria and Armañon).

  • 20.3% of the Basque territory is included in the Natura 2000 Network (Special Protection Areas for Birds and Sites of Community Importance)
  • 10.6 % is part of the Network of Protected Natural Areas of the Basque Country
  • Six wetlands are recognised as being of International Importance (Ramsar)

  • Deba-Zumaia Coastline (Gipuzkoa)
